Harm Reduction

Berkshire Harm Reductions aims to mitigate health complications from substance use by providing comprehensive services to people with substance use disorder.

Women, Infants & Children (WIC)

The WIC program aims to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.

Berkshire Connections

Our comprehensive prenatal and postnatal support program for women with a history of substance use. This program is designed to better help women and they babies during pregnancy and after birth.

Operation Better Start

Operation Better Start (OBS) focuses on young people identified to be at a high degree of clinical risk for health conditions related to nutrition and lifestyle.

Advocacy for Access

Advocacy for Access helps uninsured and underinsured people access various programs that can pay for healthcare services, thereby reducing or eliminating inability to pay as a barrier to receiving health care.

Berkshire Health Systems hosts and sponsors a variety events throughout Berkshire County.

Berkshire 150

Berkshire 150 is a 5-week wellness program for the greater Berkshire community. The goal of the program is to exercise at least 150 minutes a week as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Fourth of July 5K Race

Join us annually for Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) July 4th 5K Road Race. Families are encouraged to participate in the race together.

Occupational Health

Berkshire Occupational Health, a division of Berkshire Health Systems, specializes in comprehensive employee health services for businesses.

Wellness at Work

Wellness at Work helps the businesses in our community to implement healthy programs and practices that benefit both employees and employers by creating a healthier and safer work environment.

Community Benefits

BHS regularly assesses the health needs of Berkshire County residents as part of our community benefits strategy and planning process. Using publicly available data, findings from local organization reports, and feedback collected from focus groups and surveys, we produce our Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) every three years. This comprehensive assessment, in conjunction with the Massachusetts focus areas and priorities, is used to inform our organizational community benefit strategies and priorities, that are articulated in our Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).

A Community Health Implementation Plan (CHIP) is a long-term, systematic effort to address public health problems based on the results of the Community Health Needs Assessment, and is conducted every three years.

Community Support and Sponsorships

BHS cares for all members of our community, we recognize that making lasting, visible change throughout our region requires creating partnerships and working with local organizations and community leaders to improve health outcomes for generations to come.

We are proud to partner with local organizations to offer financial support for support programs and services that align with our organizational mission. Our community sponsorship program offers grants of up to $5,000, and prioritizes support for local initiatives that address the following focus areas:

  • Social determinants of health, including food, housing, and transportation

Volunteers In Medicine
ViM Berkshires is a nonprofit committed to creating a society where everyone has an equal opportunity for a healthy life. They provide free, comprehensive, high-quality health care, free of judgment, for patients in the region who are income-qualified and ineligible for health insurance.
Berkshire United Way
Berkshire United Way works to improve equitable access to critical services so that our neighbors in Berkshire County can thrive. Whether it’s food security, education, or emergency assistance, they are making sure no one gets left behind.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
MCLA, a public liberal arts college is focused on all of our students. In every way possible, the experience at MCLA is designed to elevate our students as individuals, leaders, and communicators, fully empowered to make their impressions on the world. MCLA is a key partner in our BHS Pathway Programs, helping to develop the healthcare workforce of the future.
The First
The First, a partnership between ServiceNet, the City of Pittsfield, and Hearthway, Inc. is a new daytime resource and community center in development in downtown Pittsfield. The First will be open seven days a week during the day and will provide: Basic Needs, Resource Navigation, Empowerment & Advocacy, Community & Connection.

Childbirth & Parenting Classes
Taught by certified childbirth instructors, our education programs are designed to help you make informed choices about your delivery, caring for yourself, and caring for your newborn.
Safe Sitter Classes
Safe Sitter programs teach home alone safety skills and babysitting training.
Chestfeeding & Breastfeeding Support Classes
Chestfeeding & Breastfeeding are strongly supported and encouraged by our obstetricians, pediatricians and our Family Birthplace staff. Our lactation team and staff nurses at both Fairview Hospital and Berkshire Medical Center are here to make your nursing experience a successful one.
