When you or a family member are involved in a major accident or have a debilitating injury, you need to receive the highest level of emergent care in a rapid timeframe. Berkshire Medical Center is home to Berkshire County’s only Level III Trauma Center, which provides critically ill or injured patients with immediate access to a team of highly-trained physicians and surgeons, the most advanced imaging, laboratory and surgical technology, and comprehensive protocols to ensure immediate and life-saving care. Berkshire Medical Center’s Trauma Care Program is verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level III Trauma Center.
The Trauma Service at BMC is an active participant in community outreach and provides Advanced Trauma Life Support course for physicians as well as numerous programs for nursing and pre-hospital providers.
To achieve Level III Trauma Center verification, BMC had to meet rigid requirements established by the American College of Surgeons, and must consistently demonstrate its ability to commit the necessary resources and highly trained clinical personnel to provide optimal care for seriously injured patients. The Trauma Team at Berkshire Medical Center includes general surgeons, Emergency Department physicians, anesthesiologists, radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, vascular and thoracic surgeons and other physicians from a broad range of medical specialties and residents.
The program at Berkshire Medical Center includes our investment in a dedicated Trauma Room in the Emergency Department that is equipped with such life-saving technology as a rapid blood infuser, which provides a patient with one unit of blood in 45 seconds, and other advanced technologies to help trauma patients.
