About Kevin Mitts, MD;

After a long Naval career with medical school, operational medicine as a Flight Surgeon, and Orthopaedic Surgery in the Navy, Dr. Mitts and wife Marybeth felt it was time to settle down. The Berkshires have been the perfect landing zone.

The necessity of a general Orthopaedic practice in the Navy served Dr. Mitts well at Berkshire Orthopaedic Associates (BOA) where his career has morphed from primarily Sports Medicine and arthroscopy with a dabbling in hand surgery to the development of a highly successful Total Joint Program at Berkshire Health Systems.

As technology has changed Orthopaedic surgery, the development of protocols and best-practices (“evidence-based medicine”) has allowed Dr. Mitts and BOA, in concert with Berkshire Medical Center, to develop and nurture a “Center of Excellence in Total Joint Replacement.”

Dr. Mitts earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, and completed his residency training in San Diego at the Naval Medical Center. In between he served with the Marines as a Naval flight surgeon with duties in the Far East and Africa. Later he served as director of surgical services at the Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan.

Dr. Mitts passionately uses his bicycle to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He is the president of the Country Club of Pittsfield, and he is a past President and Treasurer of the Berkshire branch of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Dr. Mitts and Marybeth have three grown daughters, and they live in Lenox.
