Berkshire Medical Center (EIN 04-2791396), Fairview Hospital (EIN 04-2133860), and North Adams Regional Hospital (EIN 93-2484732) are non-profit charitable organizations.
I am a therapist and I worked as a hospital social worker during my career. At 83, I am acutely aware of ageism, and it is important to me to be a participant in my healthcare. It was a real cooperative effort at BMC. The entire team treated me with respect and involved me in decisions regarding my care. It was a terrific experience. – Roberta Todras
During her three-week hospitalization at BMC, Roberta briefly required care in intensive care, then regained her strength on a medical floor and the inpatient rehabilitation unit. Roberta and her husband, Laird, donated to BMC in honor of her team of caregivers and the excellent care she received.

Generations of my family have been involved in Fairview Hospital philanthropically, professionally, and most gratefully, as patients. Fairview has been here for my family and our entire community. That is why I am proud to be an ambassador through my work on the Fairview Hospital Gala.” – Carrie Herrington
Carrie comes from a family deeply connected to Fairview Hospital: as caregivers, as philanthropists, and as patients who have relied on its exceptional care. Through her role with the Fairview Hospital Gala, Carrie honors that longstanding bond and supports the hospital’s mission so future generations across South County can count on Fairview just as hers always has.

Supporting NARH isn’t just about giving back; it’s about ensuring our neighbors have access to high-quality care close to home. The hospital is the heart of the community, and helping it thrive benefits everyone—patients, families, local businesses, and the future of North Adams itself. – David Moresi
As a longtime advocate for North Adams, David Moresi understands how essential the hospital is to the health and strength of the region. His support for NARH reflects a deep commitment to keeping exceptional, reliable care accessible for every neighbor. He believes the hospital is key to ensuring North County continues to thrive and that every member of the community can count on highquality care close to home.

Make a Planned Giving Donation
An estate plan gift through a will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy, or donor-advised fund is a simple way to make a difference at BMC or Fairview Hospital, while allowing you to also take care of your family and provide for loved ones. Below is an overview of the more common ways to make a planned gift. Please Contact Us to learn more. We also recommend you seek professional counsel in connection with your estate planning.
Retirement Account Beneficiary Designation
An easy way to make a charitable estate gift is to name Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, or Berkshire VNA as a beneficiary of your retirement account (a 401k, 403b, traditional IRA or other tax-deferred account, for example). Contact your account administrator or make the change online. It’s that simple!
IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution
IRA owners over age 70½ have the option to transfer up to $100,000 to Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, or Berkshire VNA tax-free each year. These transfers, known as qualified charitable distributions or QCDs, offer eligible donors a great way to easily give to Berkshire Health Systems before the end of the year. Moreover, for those who are age 72 or older, QCDs count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution for the year. While you cannot claim a charitable deduction for IRA gifts, this distribution from your IRA counts toward your minimum required distribution for the account and does not trigger income tax for you. It is a tax-free transfer from the IRA account directly to BMC, Fairview, or Berkshire VNA. Please contact your IRA provider for exact instructions.
