About El Ragone, DO

My interest in emergency medicine began nearly twenty years ago as an EMT and paramedic while in undergrad. After a career as a software engineer, I went to medical school and completed residency training in emergency medicine at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. I chose the Berkshires due to my passion for low-resource settings, an environment I became very comfortable in as a paramedic in a rural area. I’m fortunate to continue my passion for EMS as medical director for several of our agencies in south county.

My approach to care is highly patient-focused – while our time is often limited in the emergency department, I view my role as a guide and advocate for patients on their health journey. I greatly enjoy the time I’m allowed to spend with my patients in the rural setting to learn more about them and provide my education and experience to allow patients to make decisions for themselves. This approach was cultivated through my own experiences as a patient through my gender transition, a part of medicine that is highly customized to each and every patient and their individual goals.
