As a physician, I encounter every day both the fragility and the beauty of human life. In the long hours, the difficult choices, and the weight of suffering, it can feel as though only the “big” actions truly matter. But I’ve come to realize, through the wisdom of the “Little Way,” that healing often begins in the smallest gestures—when they are offered with great love.

Growing wiser with age doesn’t happen automatically. It comes from pausing to reflect, embracing new experiences, and choosing to nurture a hopeful mindset. Experience itself is not enough; wisdom is born when we take those experiences to heart and allow them to change us.

Today, looking back on 26 years in medicine, I feel grateful for the lessons that time has given me. Repeating my training to practice in the United States has challenged me, but it has also renewed me. I now feel both wiser and better prepared to walk alongside patients in the demanding but deeply meaningful field of Hematology and Oncology.
