Hospitalists are physicians and advanced practice providers who specialize in caring for patients during their hospital stay. They manage all aspects of inpatient medical care—from evaluating complex conditions to coordinating treatment plans—and work closely with nurses, social workers, therapists, and other team members to ensure safe, seamless, and effective care. Hospitalists also respond to urgent needs and provide consultations, helping maintain continuity and support each patient’s well-being throughout their hospitalization.

Anesthesia is the use of medicines to prevent pain during surgery and other procedures. These medicines are called anesthetics. They may be given by injection, inhalation, topical lotion, spray, eye drops, or skin patch. They cause you to have a loss of feeling or awareness.

Nutrition, as a medical specialty, focuses on the study and application of dietary principles to promote health, prevent diseases, and manage various medical conditions through personalized dietary plans. Berkshire Health Systems offers both inpatient and outpatient nutritional services.
Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) provide vital food and nutrition information, education, and help support our patients in making unique and positive lifestyle changes that are individualized to meet their needs.

Your Care Team
Hospitalists are physicians who specialize exclusively in the care of patients during their hospital stay. They lead the in-patient care team and are responsible for managing every aspect of your treatment while you are in the hospital. Because they work solely in the inpatient setting, hospitalists are experts in diagnosing and treating acute illnesses, responding quickly to changes in condition, and coordinating the many services a patient may need during a hospital stay.
Your hospitalist will:
- Oversee and integrate all medical care you receive while admitted
- Review and follow up on diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging
- Collaborate closely with specialists and consulting physicians to ensure cohesive, evidence-based treatment
- Communicate with your primary care provider to maintain continuity andsupport a smooth transition after discharge
Hospital Medicine is a team-based specialty, and hospitalists work alongside case managers, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, chaplains, and other professionals. Together, they form a coordinated care team dedicated to supporting your medical, emotional, and logistical needs throughout your hospitalization.
This integrated approach ensures that each patient receives comprehensive, well-coordinated care from admission to discharge, with a focus on safety, communication, and healing.
