Cardiology
Heart attacks, heart failure, and other heart-related illnesses are serious and need to be identified and properly treated to ensure a healthy life. Berkshire Health Systems boasts a roster of board-certified cardiologists. We are proud to offer a full array of cardiac services at locations across Berkshire County, in addition to the exceptional cardiac emergency care provided by the Emergency Departments at Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital.
Inpatient Care
Our expert team of cardiologists and healthcare professionals provides comprehensive and compassionate services. From advanced diagnostic procedures to personalized treatment plans, we prioritize your heart health. Our close-to-home facilities ensure that you receive top-quality care during your inpatient stay and our partnerships with other in-state hospitals make sure you have the critical care you need. Whether managing acute cardiac conditions or post-operative recovery, our commitment is to your well-being. Trust us for excellence in inpatient cardiology, where your heart is in capable hands.
Berkshire Health Systems emphasizes early detection for optimal cardiovascular disease treatment outcomes. Our Cardiac Catheterization lab at Berkshire Medical Center offers advanced testing and diagnosis in the Berkshires. The majority of patients receive follow-up care locally, but in rare cases, collaboration with Baystate Medical Center is seamlessly facilitated. A high-speed line connects our labs, enabling instant transmission of test results and collaboration with Baystate cardiologists, ensuring prompt and coordinated care for patients requiring specialized attention in Springfield.
Outpatient Cardiovascular Services
Berkshire Health Systems strives to create personalized care journeys for every patient, dependent on their cardiac needs. We are able to do this through the Outpatient Cardiovascular Centers at Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, North Adams Regional Hospital, and their teams of providers who are highly trained in providing cardiovascular care.
Berkshire Health Systems recognizes the lasting impact of cardiac events on patients’ lives. Following heart attack, surgery, angioplasty, or angina, cardiac rehabilitation becomes a vital step for recovery. Our specialists at Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital provide personalized programs in collaboration with referring physicians. These individualized approaches aim to reduce future risks, enhance strength, and restore confidence. Proven to decrease post-event deaths by up to 25%, our cardiac rehabilitation emphasizes ongoing support, helping patients navigate their recovery journey with comprehensive care and confidence.
Cardiology Clinics
Our Heart Failure Clinic offers a comprehensive program focused on preventing and treating heart failure with components such as education on medication, diet, exercise, and symptom management. Collaborating with physicians, we continually educate, monitor, and treat patients. Through telemedicine, nurses monitor symptoms at home, preventing potential issues. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation aids symptom alleviation, while advanced heart failure clinics at Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital ensure personalized recovery plans. Patients in our clinics have a significantly lower re-admission rate (versus 23% for non-clinic patients), highlighting the effectiveness of our approach.
Berkshire Health Systems also offers a Pacemaker Clinic available to anyone who has a pacemaker made by St. Jude, Medtronics, or Boston Scientific. Patients can have their battery status checked and evaluate cardiac events experienced since the last evaluation. The Pacemaker Clinic is located at Fairview Hospital’s Cardiology Department every Thursday at 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Appointments are required.
Higher Levels of Care & Our Partnership with Baystate Medical Center
Cardiac events can have long-lasting effects on a patient and their daily life. Cardiac rehabilitation is a crucial next step in recovery for individuals who have experienced a recent heart attack, heart surgery, angioplasty, or angina. Cardiac rehabilitation programs have been shown to reduce deaths by up to 25% during the few years following a heart attack or procedure.
At Berkshire Health Systems, a team of specialists is here to support our patients’ rehabilitation and recovery process every step of the way through personalized programs offered at both Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital. Our team, in collaboration with each patient’s referring physician, takes a highly individualized approach to care, offering personalized programs designed to help patients with heart disease reduce their risk of future events, as well as regain their strength, health, and confidence.
