Orthopedic Surgical Services

If joint pain, an injury, or a bone or muscle condition is keeping you from the activities you enjoy, the orthopedic surgery team at Berkshire Health Systems can help. Our experienced orthopedic surgeons and care teams provide advanced orthopedic care close to home.
Surgical care for patients of all ages
Our orthopedic specialists care for children, teens, adults, and older adults. Services include joint replacement, sports medicine, fracture care, trauma care, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and care for many other bones, joint, and muscle conditions.
Our physicians are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to care for orthopedic trauma injuries in our region.
Advanced surgical options close to home
When surgery is needed, our team uses advanced techniques designed to support comfort, healing, and recovery. Minimally invasive procedures may use smaller incisions and can help reduce pain, lower the risk of complications, and support a quicker return to daily activities.
Our surgeons perform a wide range of procedures, including hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow replacement; arthroscopic surgery; fracture repair; hand surgery; foot and ankle surgery; pediatric orthopedic care; and trauma surgery.
The team also brings leading-edge treatments to the community, including advanced cartilage restoration procedures such as autologous chondrocyte implantation, which uses a patient’s own cartilage cells to help repair damaged cartilage in the knee.

Arthroscopic surgery
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows a surgeon to see inside a joint using a small camera and specialized instruments. It can be used to diagnose and treat problems in the shoulder, wrist, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle.
Because arthroscopy uses small incisions, many patients have less pain after surgery, less scarring, fewer complications, and a faster recovery. In many cases, patients are able to return home the same day as their procedure.
Where surgery is performed
Orthopedic surgery is available at Berkshire Health Systems locations throughout Berkshire County. Across the system, our surgical programs bring together experienced surgeons, advanced technology, skilled anesthesia teams, dedicated nurses, and rehabilitation specialists to support patients before, during, and after surgery. The specific procedures available may vary by location, and our care team will help connect each patient with the right setting for their needs.
A team approach to recovery

Successful orthopedic care depends on a coordinated team. Surgeons, physician assistants, anesthesiologists, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists work together to create a care plan focused on safety, comfort, mobility, and recovery.
This team’s depth of training and commitment to patients are an important part of the high-quality care Berkshire Health Systems provides. From the first consultation through recovery, patients are supported by professionals who understand orthopedic conditions and the steps needed to help people return to daily life. Anesthesia and pain management
Advances in anesthesia and pain management can help patients feel more comfortable after surgery and begin moving sooner. Board-certified anesthesiologists at Berkshire Health Systems work closely with surgeons and patients to choose the most appropriate approach, which may include local, regional, or general anesthesia.
After surgery, pain management may include techniques such as ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, femoral nerve blocks, sciatic nerve blocks, or extended-duration nerve blocks. These options may provide relief in the days after surgery and help patients begin physical therapy and recovery more comfortably.
