Expanding Access to Mental Health Care

Opening Doors to Mental Health Care Across the Berkshires

Berkshire Health Systems is committed to opening doors to mental health and substance use care close to home allowing our community members to heal while staying connected to family, friends, and community. Our Partial Hospitalization Program at Berkshire Medical Center, offers structured, intensive care during the day while allowing people to return home each evening.

Mental health challenges can touch every part of life, not just for an individual, but for the people who care about them. For some, weekly outpatient visits aren’t enough support, but a hospital stay isn’t the right fit. The Partial Hospitalization Program helps meet people where they are, providing meaningful care, connection, and coping tools in a safe setting.

The program helps individuals and families navigate the next step in care with confidence. Participants may join after an inpatient stay, using the program as a supportive step-down while easing back into work, school, and daily responsibilities. Primary care providers or outpatient therapists also make referrals when extra structure can help prevent symptoms from becoming a crisis. In every case, the focus is on building stability, strengthening skills, and supporting lasting recovery.

Because getting help shouldn’t depend on transportation, distance, or a busy family schedule, Berkshire Medical Center offers the Partial Hospitalization Program both in person and virtually for Massachusetts residents. The in-person program on the Berkshire Medical Center campus provides a supportive, face-to-face therapeutic environment. The virtual program offers the same high-level of care through secure tele-health for those who prefer, or need, to take part from home.

“At Berkshire Health Systems (BHS), we recognize that behavioral health is inseparable from overall health and is an essential part of the public health landscape. Behavioral health encompasses the way we think, feel, and manage our lives, intersecting with our emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. When behavioral health needs go unaddressed, the effects can ripple across families, workplaces, and entire communities, influencing productivity, hospitalization rates, mortality, and overall quality of life.” – Brenda Bahnson, MSW, LICSW

The Partial Hospitalization Program is about hope, and about showing up for one another. When we invest in accessible, compassionate mental health care, we strengthen families, workplaces, friend groups, and neighborhoods across the Berkshires. No one should feel they have to leave Berkshire County to find support.
