Berkshire Health Systems is pleased to welcome Dr. Caio Heleno (he/him) to our Hematology/Oncology Division. Dr. Heleno received his medical degree from Unversidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He completed residency and fellowship trainings in both Brazil and the United States. His residency trainings were both in Internal Medicine: one at the Hospital Municipal Odilon Behrens in Brazil, and the other at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. His fellowship trainings in Oncology took place at the Hospital dad Clinicas da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil, and at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
Dr. Heleno is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the Brazilian Board of Cancerology. At BHS, Dr. Heleno will be providing Hematology/Oncology consults and Bone Marrow biopsies. One of his clinical interests is solid tumors.
As a physician that treats the devastating disease of cancer, Dr. Heleno deeply understands the fragility and beauty of human life. Looking back on his career so far, he is appreciative of having to complete trainings in both Brazil and the United States. He shared that repeating his training has challenged and renewed him. He feels better prepared to walk alongside patients he treats.
Dr. Heleno is new to the Berkshires, and he’s already explored the Pittsfield State Forest’s many trails and Berry Pond.

Looking back on 26 years in medicine, I feel grateful for the lessons experience has given me. Repeating my training to practice in the United States has challenged me, but it has also renewed me. I am wiser and more prepared to walk alongside patients in the demanding but deeply meaningful field of Hematology and Oncology
