Changes are Coming to Berkshire WIC
Dear WIC Participants,
Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) and Community Health Programs (CHP) agree that WIC plays a vital role in supporting community health through nutrition education, food benefits, breastfeeding support, and connections to care. We have served our community at WIC sites in north, central, and south county for decades and are continuing to partner to support WIC families as the Massachusetts WIC program begins to make changes to the way it distributes WIC funding across the state.
This year, Massachusetts updated its approach to distributing WIC grants to organize and streamline the way that smaller programs, like the ones in Berkshire County, operate. As part of this statewide transition, BHS and CHP reviewed the opportunities for maintaining WIC services here in the Berkshires and agreed to move forward with a proposal unifying all three WIC locations under a single umbrella program operated by BHS.
Following the formal approval of this proposal by the Commonwealth earlier this year, WIC will transition to a single Berkshire program operated by BHS, effective July 1, 2026. This transition will expand services across all 32 communities in Berkshire County, strengthening access, equity, and continuity of care – especially for families in rural areas.
Berkshire WIC will operate across all of Berkshire County, with virtual appointments available:
- Monday 8:00am-6:30pm
- Tuesday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
On-site appointments in North Adams, Pittsfield, and Great Barrington will be available by scheduling directly with the WIC program at the clinic most convenient to them. WIC
Participants can also call the main office in Pittsfield at 413-447-3495 to be connected with the northern and southern clinics. Please be patient with us as we make changes and updates to our hours and physical locations so that we can better provide the care and services you need.
BHS and CHP are partnering to support WIC participants throughout this program change. We understand this transition may be an adjustment and are committed to supporting you every step of the way. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at wic@bhs1.org.
Sincerely,
Roberta Gale
