Helping with the unique needs of cancer survivors
With more than 14 million cancer survivors in the US today, thanks to early detection and new treatments, a whole new field has opened up in the world of cancer care. The BMC Cancer Center is proactive in addressing the unique needs of cancer survivors, with a focus on helping patients continue to survive and thrive after getting through their cancer treatment.
Patients transitioning from active treatment to survivorship are provided with a comprehensive Survivorship Care Plan listing all of their treatments, clearly outlining their follow-up and recommending specific ways they can maintain and improve their health. Educational materials on a healthy lifestyle are provided.
This plan is meant to be shared with your other doctors if you should move or need emergency care out of town. Included in the summary will be recommendations on when you will need to return for follow up care and tests. Information will be included on ways you can improve your health during and after your recovery period.
