January 18, 2017 North Adams Campus of BMC Further Expands: Cardiac Rehabilitation – New Service for Northern Berkshire – Joins Specialty Practices Area NORTH ADAMS, MA - Berkshire Health Systems has announced the further expansion of the North Adams Campus of Berkshire Medical Center, with a service that has never been provided before in Northern Berkshire – Cardiac Rehabilitation. The announcement was made during a community open house event held at the Northern Berkshire Specialty Practices of BMC, first floor of the North Adams Campus, on Wednesday, January 18th. Cardiac Rehabilitation Expansion Berkshire Medical Center has expanded its highly effective cardiac rehabilitation program to North Berkshire, which marks the first time such a service has been provided in the region. Each year, hundreds of Berkshire residents participate in this valuable, life-extending program. BMC Cardiac Rehabilitation is located at the Northern Berkshire Specialty Practices, on the first floor of the North Adams Campus. For patients who have suffered a recent heart attack, heart failure or had surgical intervention such as a bypass, valve replacement or the installation of stents to improve blood flow, this monitored exercise, education and counseling program is an essential next step in recovery and a return to a healthy, active lifestyle. Patients undergo cardiac rehabilitation three days a week for a period of 12 weeks. Patients access the program through a referral from their cardiologist. “For many years, patients from throughout the Berkshires have benefited from BMC’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, a vital component of care following a cardiac event,” said David Phelps, President and CEO of Berkshire Health Systems. “This service, provided for the first time in Northern Berkshire, gives patients in need of this specialized care direct access close to home. Our highly skilled Cardiac Rehabilitation professionals help cardiac patients to strengthen their cardiovascular system and attain a healthy lifestyle.” BMC Cardiac Rehabilitation features state-of-the-art equipment and the expertise of clinical professionals specializing in the latest techniques to improve health following a cardiac incident. Cardiac Rehabilitation is located inside the Northern Berkshire Specialty Practices of BMC, a convenient, single site for multiple physician specialties and associated programs, providing North Berkshire and Southern Vermont patients with greater access to care. Northern Berkshire Specialty Practices of BMC opened on November 1, 2016 on the first floor of the North Adams Campus, with access through the main lobby at 71 Hospital Avenue. Northern Berkshire Specialty Practices of BMC consolidates in one location the offices of several BMC physician practices, including: Cardiology Professional Services of BMC; Endocrinology & Metabolism of BMC and BHS Diabetes Education; Hematology Oncology Services of BMC; the Pain Diagnosis & Treatment Center of BMC; and Urology Professional Services of BMC.
