BMC Schedules Free Educational Event on Screening Colonoscopy

PITTSFIELD, MA – Berkshire Medical Center and Central Berkshire Gastroenterology will present a free educational event focusing on screening colonoscopy, the gold standard for helping to prevent colon cancer or detect it early. The lecture and question and answer session will be held on Wednesday, August 18th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Berkshire Hills Country Club.

Dr. Rangan Murali, a gastroenterologist with Central Berkshire Gastroenterology will be joined by nursing staff from the BMC Endoscopy Unit at the event. They will discuss the importance of being screened through colonoscopy in order to help prevent colon cancer or to detect it in its early stages, when it is treatable. The Centers for Disease Control and the American Cancer Society recommend screening colonoscopy for people aged 50 and older, or at an earlier age for those with a family history of colon cancer or other risk factors.

The discussion will be followed by a question and answer period, where the audience can ask questions about colonoscopy and colon cancer.

Pre-registration for the event is required. To register, call 413-447-2060 or register online at: www.berkshirehealthsystems.org/colonoscopy. The event is free and open to all.
