Wellness Program for Post-Breast Cancer Patients |
August 18, 2009 For Immediate Release Wellness Program Offered for Post-Breast Cancer Patients PITTSFIELD, MA - The Women’s Imaging Center at BMC will provide an eight-week wellness program for post-breast cancer patients, featuring a focus on exercise, nutrition and stress reduction. The program will run twice, with the first eight week session held on Tuesdays from September 8th to October 27th, from 4 to 5 pm in the BMC Medical Arts Complex 5th Floor Classroom, and a second series in the winter. Facilitators are: Deborah MacDonald, MS, a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor who works in the BMC Rehabilitation Department; Marsha Schulte, Registered Dietitian at BMC; Dianne Pennetti, RN, from the BMC Behavioral Health Department; and Kim Murdock, RN, from the Women’s Imaging Center. The program will include 6 weeks of exercise, one week of nutrition instruction, including a cooking demonstration and one week of stress reduction instruction. The goals of the program are to help the post-breast cancer patient achieve weight stabilization, discomfort reduction, healthy eating habits, stimulation of the immune system, stress reduction techniques, increased energy and to meet new friends and have fun.
