Berkshire Medical Center’s General Practice Residency in Dentistry is accredited by the American Dental Association.
Our current accreditation with reporting requirements is current through November 2022 at which time a site visit results will be announced. The program offers three PGY1 positions. Program graduates receive a certificate upon satisfactory completion.
The resident will have a wide exposure in all phases of dentistry as well as being integrated into the environment of a teaching hospital with a large medical resident program and affiliations with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. There is an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and communicate with residents and students of other disciplines.
The educational experience includes generalists and specialists knowledgeable in all aspects of dentistry who are committed teachers and mentors.
Following the standards of the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation, residents complete rotations in medicine and anesthesia. Following an orientation to the department, the residents cover the Emergency Department on an on-call basis, providing a valuable community service as well as providing the opportunity to observe and participate in the care of a variety of medical and surgical problems. Berkshire Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center serving a large geographic area. The program also involves the residents in a number of community service programs.
The BMC Dental Clinic has seven fully equipped operatories, digital radiology, and the opportunity to provide standard of care general dentistry modalities. Clinic staff consists of four certified dental assistants, a clinic coordinator and receptionist. We offer the opportunity to treat patients under general anesthesia in the operating room.
