Both Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital are designated by the state Department of Public Health as Primary Stroke Centers.

This means they meet rigorous standards of stroke diagnosis and care and are approved to administer t-PA to eligible patients. If given promptly, t-PA can significantly reduce the effects of stroke and reduce permanent disability.
Our Stroke Program focuses on immediate and accurate diagnosis – most frequently in the Emergency Department – where physicians, nurses and staff have immediate access to state-of-the-art diagnostic technology. A BMC neurologist is immediately available whenever stroke is suspected.
The
Fairview Hospital Telestroke Program directly links the patients in Fairview Hospital's Emergency Department to neurologists at BMC to assist in diagnosis and the beginning of care.
BMC has onsite stroke experts available 24-hours a day and is staffed and equipped to not only diagnose and treat stroke patients, but to also see them through rehabilitation and all stages of recovery.
