Berkshire Health System Tobacco Treatment Services provides smoking cessation counseling to anyone wishing to change his or her smoking behavior. We focus on behavioral change, pharmacological aids, and the psychological factors associated with quitting nicotine. We offer individual appointment and group classes at the Hillcrest Campus of BMC, Berkshire Health North and Fairview hospital
Tobacco Treatment Services at BMC has been selected by the federal Centers for Disease Control as a “Best Practice” for treating nicotine dependence in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Accessing Our Programs
Anyone can self-refer to our programs by calling 445-9232 in Central County, 664-5057 in North County and 854-9929 in South County. Individual appointments are available Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate work schedules. Most appointments are held at the Hillcrest Campus, Berkshire Health North and Fairview hospital. Some appointments can occur at individual physician practices. Worksite treatment groups are also available for area employers. Information on these can be made available upon request.
Tobacco Treatment Group Classes
Tobacco treatment classes are held regularly throughout the year with each program running for five consecutive weeks. Groups are available in all of our locations. Pre-registration is required by calling 413-445-9232 (Pittsfield), 413-854-9929 (Great Barrington) or 413-664-5057 (North Adams).
Services are provided by experienced counselors. These counselors have been trained by the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Division of Preventive and Behavioral Health through its internationally respected Tobacco Treatment Certification Program. This is the only program that offers a Master Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist credentialing.
Tobacco Treatment Services works collaboratively with many other BHS programs including physicians’ offices, Berkshire North WIC, and Operation Better Start. This collaboration extends to the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, Northern Berkshire and Pittsfield based YMCA, Berkshire South Regional Community Center, Tri-Town Health Department, Berkshire County Boards of Health, and the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission. The department also has working relationships with several community agencies including the Brien Center and Berkshire Area Health Education Center.
