The Department of Pharmacy brings a new dimension of quality care to the oncology patients in the community, a talented team of practitioners in a state-of-the-art facility. Early efforts at the new cancer center have been geared towards standardizing care and providing advanced pharmacy expertise. Our two board certified Oncology Pharmacists are among fewer than 40 in the state of Massachusetts.
We have also implemented a state-of-the-art pharmacy compounding suite in compliance with state and federal regulations. As part of our plan to maximize efficiency, we have implemented an electronic compounding system. There are fewer than 200 health-systems in the country with this advanced technology implemented.
The pharmacy team has been a key partner in building a comprehensive Electronic Health Record system using evidence-based protocols. Chemotherapy regimens in the system are based on consensus guidelines published by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and reviewed by an interdisciplinary team of practitioners. The group looks forward to more opportunities to provide support and education to patients, the community and practitioners as the center grows and evolves.
