What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology is a sub-specialty of Radiology. It is an area that uses minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases which reduce risk to the patient and improve health outcomes. Interventional Radiologists are highly trained and board certified radiologists that work closely along with our licensed Radiologic Technologists and Registered Nurses.
Today many conditions that once required conventional surgery are now being done by Interventional Radiologists in Radiology. Interventional Radiology overlaps with many other medical fields. For example, some of the procedures that can be done include stenting, biopsies, chest tube placement, and abscess drainage. Your doctor will work closely with you and the Interventional Radiology Department to schedule your procedure and help you to make the best healthcare decisions for you.
