Many of our hematology and oncology patients receive blood transfusions to improve their health during the course of their care, or to treat the effects of chemotherapy on bone marrow
To make this process as convenient and comfortable as possible – and to consolidate cancer care all in one location - the BMC Cancer Center now includes an Infusion Center on the 4th floor.
Because our patients are already at the BMC Cancer Center for physician visits and other treatments, their care teams are better able to track their conditions and have their blood type ready if it appears that a blood transfusion may be needed in the near future. In addition, patients have immediate access to physicians at the center if needed during the transfusion.
Patients often use this time to meet with our social worker or other members of their care team who are all working nearby.
During the process, patients have individual TVs, chairs that provide heat and massage, room for a guest to stay with them, and can order off the Cancer Center’s menu for lunch and snacks.
