It is possible to complete an abbreviated sleep study exam in the comfort of your home utilizing one of our home sleep testing kits.
During sleep your body functions differently than when you are awake. The only way to determine just how well your body is functioning is to record bodily functions using sensors. If a home sleep exam is ordered by your physician, the BMC Sleep Disorders Center staff will assist you every step of the way.
An initial appointment will be made at our office to meet with a technologist who will completely review the home kit, placement of sensors and recording process. A written manual and DVD are included in the kit to help assist you, as well as a link to a video below. Our technicians are available 7PM-7AM at 447-2701 if you have any questions throughout the evening.
On the night of your study you will attach sensors indicated below:
· Airflow: Sensor worn in nose
· Breathing Movements: Belts around chest and abdomen
· Oxygen Level: Probe wrapped around finger
· Microphone Sensor: taped to neck
In the morning, you will remove belts and recording unit and return to the BMC Sleep Disorders Center by noon with your completed paperwork and questionnaire. If you are not in the Pittsfield area, arrangements can be made to return the unit via courier.
Thousands of data points collected on the recording unit will be compiled into a final report and sent to your health care provider within 2 weeks. If treatment is recommended, we can work closely with your provider on an individualized treatment plan.
