Gestational Diabetes is high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy. Your MD routinely tests your blood sugar during pregnancy. If the blood sugar levels are not managed , it can cause problems for both you and the baby. Sometimes your MD will send you to a specialist called an Endocrinologist to help you return your blood sugar levels back to normal during the pregnancy. The good news is that blood sugars can be managed and often return to normal after the baby is born. Gestational Diabetes is a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes later in life.
