When the diagnosis is breast cancer, the Women’s Imaging Center becomes our patients’ link to the extensive resources of the healthcare system to ensure they receive the highest standards of care.
A weekly Breast Conference led by one of our breast Radiologists, brings together a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, primary care providers, nurse navigators and technologists who represent all breast subspecialty areas of the hospital. At the conference, each case (mostly prospectively) is thoroughly reviewed and a plan of care is determined with input from many of the most talented physicians on our staff.
Our nurse navigators serve as the guide through a formalized Patient Navigation Program that begins when a patient is diagnosed with cancer and continues through all phases of care and follow-up. The program is tailored to the individual needs of each patient and can include helping them connect with surgeons and oncologists, providing whatever information and support is needed for the patient and family, and even attending procedures at the patient’s request.
