|Open House Planned for Surgical Offices|

BHS SURGICAL PRACTICE TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE
PITTSFIELD, MA – Timothy Counihan, MD and Sheldon Brotman, MD, Berkshire Health Systems’ surgical specialists, will hold an open house to show their new practice location and to provide the community with information on available services. The open house will be held on Wednesday, January 30th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Berkshire Medical Center Medical Arts Complex, 6th floor. The event is free and open to all, and light refreshments will be provided.
Dr. Counihan, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at BMC is a specialist in colon and rectal surgery, and Dr. Brotman, a trauma surgeon, is the Medical Director of the BMC Trauma Center.
Board certified in both general and colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Counihan completed his general surgery training at the University of Massachusetts and was fellowship trained in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota. He has been in practice for over nine years and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His clinical interests include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, minimally invasive colorectal surgery and anorectal disease.
Prior to joining BMC in 2003, Dr. Brotman served nearly ten years as Trauma Director and Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Atlantic City Medical Center. While there, he was also associated with the Thomas Jefferson Medical School and the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry, and was active in research and teaching. Certified by the American Board of Surgery with an added qualification in surgical critical care, Dr. Brotman is also certified by the American Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
