Fairview Earns Top Performer Recognition from The Joint Commission

GREAT BARRINGTON, MA – Fairview Hospital was named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures by the Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America. Fairview Hospital is one of only 405 hospitals in the US to have earned the distinction as top performer on key quality measures, for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. Inclusion on the list is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to the Joint Commission during the previous calendar year.

Fairview Hospital was recognized for achieving these thresholds for Surgery and Pneumonia.

“We understand that what matters most to patients at Fairview Hospital is safe, effective care. That’s why we have made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” says Anthony Rinaldi, Executive Vice President of Fairview Hospital. “Fairview is part of Berkshire Health Systems, which as an organization has set a very high bar on providing only the best patient care throughout the system.”

To be recognized as a top performer on key quality measures an organization must meet two 95 percent performance thresholds. First they must achieve a composite performance of 95 percent or above after the results of all the accountability measures for which they report data to the Joint Commission were factored into a single score, including measures that had less than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, they must meet or exceed a 95 percent performance target for every single accountability measure for which they report data, excluding any measures with less than 30 eligible cases or patients.

“Achieving recognition as a Top Performers on Key Quality Measures in two areas speaks to the commitment with which we approach patient care at Fairview,” says George Ritter, MD, Director of Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality at Fairview Hospital. “Because of Fairview’s small size, every patient encounter impacts overall statistics significantly. That we have scored over 95% in the areas of Surgery and Pneumonia speaks to the diligence of our clinical staff and the reliability of systems that we have put in place to care for our patients.”

“Our goal is to continually improve outcomes for our patients,” said Doreen Hutchinson, Vice President of Operations and Chief Nurse at Fairview. “The Joint Commission standards provide important feedback for our clinical and quality teams to achieve the best processes and systems for better performance and accountability. It is an honor for the entire staff and the physicians at Fairview to receive this external validation of the quality of care patients receive here.”
