BMC Earns High Marks in Patient Safety, Quality and Efficiency Survey
PITTSFIELD, MA – Berkshire Medical Center has achieved high marks from the Leapfrog Hospital Recognition Program (LHRP) for quality, resource use and efficiency. Leapfrog is a comprehensive hospital pay-for-performance program that focuses on the most important national patient safety, quality and resource use standards. Through the LHRP, a hospital is scored for its performance on each of Leapfrog’s over 20 standards.
In the most recent survey, Berkshire Medical Center scored in the top decile for quality, resource use and efficiency when compared with hospitals in Massachusetts and across the nation. BMC scored higher than the national average in all categories.
The hospital quality score is based on a hospital’s performance on national quality standards, including common acute conditions such as pneumonia, outcomes for high risk procedures, hospital-acquired conditions, computerized physician order entry, ICU physician staffing and safe practices.
In all, 1,185 hospitals from 45 states participated in the survey.
