BMC Awards Healthcare Scholarships
BMC Awards Healthcare Scholarships: Nearly 20 Receive Support for Education in Numerous Healthcare Areas

Berkshire Medical Center has awarded scholarships to nineteen individuals pursuing careers in numerous healthcare fields, through two scholarship funds.

The Kermit Gordon Scholarships were awarded to ten Berkshire County students enrolled in medicine, nursing, radiography, physical therapy and other healthcare related professional education programs. The Gordon Scholarship Fund was created by Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Gordon in 1985. Through the generosity and support of the Gordon family – longstanding donors to BMC – the ten students receiving scholarships for 2010 are:

•Joel Bradley of Dalton, attending the University of Massachusetts Medical School and studying for his medical degree. He is the son is Robert and Ruth Bradley of Windsor.
•Sara Burdick of Adams, a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School attending the University of Massachusetts to study molecular biology and pre-med. She is the daughter of Andrew and Beth Burdick of Adams.
•Samantha Folan of Dalton, a graduate of Wahconah Regional High School attending Quinnipiac University to study nursing. She is the daughter of Dan Folan and Tracie Bennett of Dalton.
•Kathryn Goyette of Adams, a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School attending Springfield College to study physical therapy. She is the daughter of Paul and Ruth Goyette of Adams.
•Morgan Jasewicz of Pittsfield, a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School attending the University of Massachusetts to study nutrition. He is the grandson of Robert Brodeur of Pittsfield.
•Sara Malloy of Savoy, a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School attending Fitchburg State College to study nursing. She is the daughter of Harold and Diane Malloy of Savoy.
•Priyesh Mehta of Pittsfield, attending the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine to study for his medical degree. He is the son of Mahendra and Chendra Mehta of Pittsfield.
•Megan Moncecchi of Savoy, a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to study for her Doctor of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of William and Denise Moncecchi of Savoy.
•Shane Ruberto of Pittsfield, a graduate of Pittsfield High School attending Syracuse University to study bio-medical engineering and pre-med. He is the son of Pasquale and Tracy Ruberto of Pittsfield.
•Ashley Varuzzo of North Adams, a graduate of Drury High School attending Springfield College to study speech and language pathology. She is the daughter of Gerald and Linda Varuzzo of North Adams.

BMC awarded nine scholarships for nursing through the former Henry W. Bishop and St. Luke’s Nursing schools. These scholarships help pay initial tuition and expenses for those pursuing an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree of master’s degree in nursing. For 2010, the recipients of the BMC nursing scholarships are:

•Rachel Bienert of Great Barrington, a graduate of Monument Mountain High School attending Marquette University. She is the daughter of Clifford and Debra Bienert of Great Barrington.
•Jenna Bolte of North Adams, a graduate of Drury High School attending Sacred Heart University. She is the daughter of Eric Bolte and Pam LaChappelle of North Adams.
•Michele Delisle, attending the University of Colorado – Denver College of Nursing.
•Samantha Folan of Dalton, a graduate of Wahconah Regional High School attending Quinnipiac University to study nursing. She is the daughter of Dan Folan and Tracie Bennett of Dalton.
•Avery Forget of Lee, a graduate of Lee High School attending Northeastern University. He is the son of Jeffrey and Nancy Forget of Lee.
•Taran Korte of Great Barrington, a graduate of Monument Mountain High School attending the University of Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Brian and Dawn Korte of Great Barrington.
•Sara Malloy of Savoy, a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School attending Fitchburg State College to study nursing. She is the daughter of Harold and Diane Malloy of Savoy.
•Colleen Moretti of Pittsfield, a graduate of Pittsfield High School attending Worcester State College. She is the daughter of Wayne and Kelly Moretti of Pittsfield.
•Katie Ryan of North Adams, a graduate of Drury High School attending Colby-Sawyer College. She is the daughter of Debbie Middleton of North Adams.
