|BMC Cancer Center – Fact Sheet
Berkshire Health Systems and Berkshire Hematology/Oncology are partnering on the development of a new Cancer Center at Berkshire Medical Center, providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art cancer care in one location, at the BMC Hillcrest Campus. The $30 million project will include extensive renovations and a new entryway at Hillcrest for the BMC Cancer Center. The full extent of renovation and new construction will include:
•New Entrance and Lobby: The existing entrance to the Hillcrest Family Health Center area will be removed and a new exterior canopy will be constructed with a new entryway leading into the building. The new lobby area will feature a reception area with an abundance of natural light and serve as the gateway to the treatment facility.
•Wellness Center: A Wellness Center will be established that will include a patient library, conference room and classroom, additional complementary services and support for patients and their families, such as a meditation room, exercise rehabilitation, dietary and counseling offices, along with an area for physician consultations.
•Radiation Oncology & Multidisciplinary Clinic: To the east of the Lobby this 4,750 sq. ft. wing will be renovated to accommodate the Radiation Oncology physician practice along with additional examination and office space for other specialists to see patients.
•Hematology/Oncology Physician Practice: The 3rd floor of the patient tower will be renovated to accommodate a six physician Hematology/Oncology Practice. This 9,800 sq. ft. area will include 18 patient exam rooms, 10 office areas, a conference room and the necessary support areas and a waiting area with views of nearby Onota Lake.
•Laboratory: The new Cancer Center will include a full clinical laboratory on-site that will be available to provide rapid laboratory test results.
•Pharmacy: The Cancer Center will feature a dedicated, on-site pharmacy, staffed by highly trained pharmacists, providing rapid access to pharmaceuticals as needed for patients.
•Infusion & Treatment Service: The 4th floor of the patient tower will feature a 30-station Infusion Service. This area will be equipped to meet patients who require general infusion, chemotherapy and other important treatment services. The area is designed to maximize the beautiful views of Onota Lake and the surrounding mountains to provide a very comforting environment for patients.
•Radiation Therapy: The ground level of the Cancer Center will feature Berkshire Medical Center’s Radiation Therapy Program, currently located at the main hospital. The new Center will include state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology equipment for Cancer treatment, such as a Linear Accelerator, Tomotherapy, CT scanner and all necessary support services.
Phase I – Early 2013:
•Renovation of the 3rd floor of the patient tower at the Hillcrest Campus for a six-physician Hematology/Oncology practice, featuring 18 patient exam rooms, 10 office areas, a conference room, and a waiting area with views of Onota Lake.
•Infusion and Treatment area on the 4th floor of the patient tower with 30-infusion stations for general infusion, chemotherapy and other critical patient treatment services.
•State-of-the-art Pharmacy on 4th floor
Phase II – Fall of 2013:
•Construction of new entrance canopy and lobby for BMC Cancer Center
•Wellness Center, featuring patient library, conference room, classroom, complementary services and support for patients and their families, such as a meditation room, exercise rehabilitation area, dietary and counseling areas and physician consultation space
•Clinical laboratory to provide rapid test results
Phase III - 2014:
•Radiation Oncology and Multidisciplinary Clinic, with Radiation Oncology physician practice space, additional exam rooms and office space for other specialists to see patients
•Radiation Therapy Services: Ground level to be renovated for BMC’s Radiation Therapy Program, currently located at the main hospital campus. The new center will feature advanced equipment, including state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator, Tomotherapy, CT scanner and necessary support services.
