|Berkshire Health Systems Hospitals Recognized as Top Performers by The Joint Commission
The nation’s leading accrediting organization for hospitals has named Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™. BMC was recognized as a Top Performer in Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care. Fairview was honored for Pneumonia and Surgical Care.
As two of only 620 hospitals to receive this recognition nationwide, BMC and Fairview are in the top 18% of more than 3,400 Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that reported core measure performance data in 2011. BMC and Fairview are also among only ten hospitals in Massachusetts to achieve Top Performer recognition.
“Berkshire Health Systems has a continual commitment to providing the safest and most effective care to our patients,” said David Phelps, President and CEO of Berkshire Health Systems. “BMC and Fairview have implemented protocols that ensure the use of evidence-based care processes for each and every patient, leading to better outcomes.”
Hospitals recognized as Joint Commission Top Performers must achieve performance of 95% or higher composite score on all the accountability measures reported to The Joint Commission in calendar year 2011, and had to exceed a 95% score for every reported measure. The 95% mark means a hospital provided evidence-based care in 95% or more of cases.
Launched in 2011, The Joint Commission’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures program recognizes accredited hospitals that attain excellence on accountability measure performance. The program is based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to be the best treatments for certain conditions.
