|Dr. Brian Burke Receives New England Medical Award
The New England Rural Health Roundtable has honored Dr. Brian Burke, Chief of the Medical Staff at Fairview Hospital, with its Rural Health Clinician Award. Dr. Burke received the award at the 13th Annual New England Rural Health Roundtable symposium in Meredith, New Hampshire.
The Rural Clinician of the Year Award recognizes leadership in bringing health services to citizens in rural New England. The recipient must be a physician, dentist, dental hygienist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, nurse or social worker. The nomination must demonstrate that the nominee is involved in the community and has made a lasting contribution to the rural health care system in New England.
This prestigious award recognized Dr. Burke for outstanding clinical work at Fairview Hospital and throughout Berkshire County. He was commended for “being a voice” for rural Critical Access Hospitals, like Fairview, and for federally qualified health centers, as well as for private physicians in rural practice.
“Dr. Burke is loved by his patients and respected by his medical colleagues and the staffs of the organizations he leads. He is dedicated to the training, recruitment and retention of healthcare providers for the rural areas of the Commonwealth,” said Cathleen McElligott, Director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Office of Rural Health. “This past year he has been an outstanding member of the new Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Healthcare Workforce Center’s Advisory Commission. He understands the needs of the rural areas and for all these reasons, was an obvious choice for the New England Rural Health Roundtable’s award.”
