PUBLIC FORUM TO BE HELD ON CONCUSSION AND SAFETY
PITTSFIELD, MA - Berkshire Medical Center will host a public forum focusing on concussion and brain injury. Concussion Discussion: Concussion, Brain Injury & Safety will be held on Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00 pm in the Berkshire Medical Center Auditorium. The forum will be led by Ellen Deibert, MD, a Neurologist who is the Medical Director of the BMC Concussion Clinic and a certified brain injury specialist.
Dr. Deibert coordinates BMC’s highly successful community program for student athletes participating in sports that are at high-risk for concussion, called ImPACT. Now in its third year, the program provides local high schools’ athletic programs with baseline testing for athletes that will help in the diagnosis and treatment of the athlete should he or she suffer a concussion. Nine Berkshire County high schools participate, and over 1,300 athletes have been tested to date in the BMC program.
Hoosac Valley, Lee, Lenox, Monument Mountain, Mount Everett, Mount Greylock, Pittsfield, Taconic and Wahconah high schools participate in the program. Sports activities considered at high-risk for concussion include: basketball, football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, diving, hockey, gymnastics, softball, snowboarding and skiing.
The forum is open to anyone and may be particularly interesting for student athletes, their parents, school athletic directors and coaches and school administrators.
