Michael McInerney, MD, Chief of Staff, Berkshire Medical Center
A respected Internal Medicine specialist and long-time member of the Berkshire Medical Center medical staff, Dr. Michael McInerney was appointed BMC Chief of Staff in 2019. Dr. McInerney joined the BMC medical staff in 1985 and has served as a physician with the Berkshire Medical Group and its successor, Berkshire Internists of BMC.
Dr. McInerney is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Worcester Memorial Hospital.
Dr. McInerney has previously served as Vice Chief of Staff of Berkshire Medical Center.
In 2015, Dr. McInerney was honored for his many years of dedicated service to patients by the Berkshire District Medical Society as Community Clinician of the Year.
Dr. James Lederer joined Berkshire Health Systems in January of 2020, with more than 20 years of experience in leading innovative, patient-focused, high-quality care initiatives in settings spanning acute-care hospitals, health systems and physician practices. He most recently had served as Vice President for Clinical Excellence at Allspire Health Partners in Pennsylvania. Previously he was Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer at St. Alphonsus Health Systems in Idaho, and he has served in senior leadership roles at systems in North Carolina.
Dr. Lederer received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and completed his residency in Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee. He was fellowship trained in Infectious Diseases at St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital. Dr. Lederer is board certified in Internal Medicine and Adult Infectious Diseases.

Anesthesiology - Raymond Gary Sohl, MD
Dr. Raymond Gary Sohl has served as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology since 2011, and previously served as Medical Director of the Operating Rooms at Berkshire Medical Center from 2007 to 2009. He joined Berkshire Health Systems in 2006.
He received his medical degree from the University Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico and New York Medical College, and completed his residency in Anesthesia at the University of Massachusetts.
Dr. Sohl is board certified in Anesthesiology.
Emergency Medicine - Michael McHugh, MD
Michael McHugh, MD, was named Chairman of the BMC Emergency Medicine Department in 2016 after serving for many years as an Emergency Medicine physician at the medical center.
Dr. McHugh is board certified in Emergency Medicine and was the recipient of BMC's Patient-Centered Physician Award in 2014.
He received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1998 and completed his residency at Albany Medical Center in 2001.
Maternal/Child Health - Herbert Kantor, MD
Dr. Herbert Kantor has served as Chair of the Department of Maternal and Child Health since 2001 and was Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1992 to 2001. He received his Medical Degree from Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University and completed his residency at Stamford Hospital.
Dr. Kantor is an assistant professor in the Department of OB/GYN at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is certified in advanced operative hysteroscopy and advanced operative laparoscopy by the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy.
Pathology - Jessica Krochmal, MD
Dr. Jessica Krochmal is Chair of the Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories. She joined BMC in 2008.
Dr. Krochmal is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, and has dual fellowship training in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She also completed her residency in Pathology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
She received her medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
Psychiatry - Alex Sabo, MD
Dr. Alex Sabo is the Chairman of the Berkshire Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. In Berkshire County from 1994 to the present, he has played a leadership role in the integration of mental health and substance abuse services and the outreach of those services to primary care medicine. In addition to being Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Sabo is the Director of Psychiatry for the Joint Venture of BMC and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of the Berkshires, whose combined acute units and outpatient clinics served approximately 9,500 residents of the county last year.
He takes an active role in consumer, medical student, residency and medical staff education, delivering many lectures on topics ranging from suicide risk assessment to identifying core processes in health and illness. He has lectured regularly for the Berkshire Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and in 2000 was awarded the "NAMI BC Citizen of the Year Award".
Dr. Sabo completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard College and taught middle school English and ancient history and coached football, basketball and baseball teams for three years before starting his medical studies at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He served his psychiatric residency at the Cambridge Hospital and a Fellowship at the Austen Riggs Center.
Dr. Sabo is Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Lecturer on Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His book with Leston Havens, "The Real World Guide to Psychotherapy Practice," was published by Harvard University Press in November, 2000. He is nationally recognized, having received the American Psychiatric Association's 12th annual Nancy C.A. Roeske, MD, Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education.
Radiology - Lisa Loring, MD
Dr. Lisa Loring is Chair of the Radiology Department and specializes in Women's Imaging.
Dr. Loring grew up locally in Lee. She is board certified in Radiology and fellowship trained in Breast Imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her residency in Radiology at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.
Dr. Loring is a long-time member of the BMC medical staff and is highly experienced in mammography and Breast MRI, and has expertise in ultrasound, biopsies and other studies related to Women's Imaging.
Surgery - Marcella Bradway, MD
Dr. Marcella Bradway is Chair of the Department of Surgery and is a Colon and Rectal surgeon. A Pittsfield native, Dr. Bradway has previously served as Interim Chair of Surgery twice, during 2016 and again in 2018. She is the first female to serve as Chair of Surgery at BMC. She served as Vice Chair of Surgery from 2013 to early 2018. She was honored by the Medical Center in 2012 with its Patient-Centered Physician Award.
Dr. Bradway is board certified in general and colon and rectal surgery and fellowship trained in colon and rectal surgery from St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. She received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Connecticut Integrated Surgical Residency Program.
She previously served as Chair of Surgery for Griffin Hospital, Derby, CT and returned to her hometown of Pittsfield in 2008.
