I’m a 3rd medical student who is interested in doing an audition rotation with your program next year. How do I apply?
All of our audition rotations for general surgery are coordinated via VSAS. Please refer to our Medical Student page for more information.
I was approved for a rotation but will need to miss a day or two. What should I do? Will I be required to make up the time?
Please make every attempt to be available for the duration of the requested rotation, however in the event you are not please let us know as soon as possible what dates you will be unavailable and we will do our best to accommodate. We realize that time is precious in the 4th year of medical school, therefore the requirements for satisfying absences are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the rules of the home school and the length of the absence.
I was approved for an audition rotation at your institution but I just found out that my plans have changed. Is it too late to cancel or reschedule my rotation?
We understand that the fourth year of medical school can be an incredible hectic, stressful, and expensive times in one’s life. Please provide at least two – four weeks’ notice of any cancellations so that we may have time to contact someone from our waitlist. We are unable to guarantee that any cancellation will have an opportunity to reschedule the rotation as spaces tend to fill quickly, however we would be happy to put you on a waitlist should there be no spaces available. Please contact Suzette Naylor if you must cancel or reschedule your rotation.
I’m a medical student who is interested in a rotation with your program next year but it was hoping to bring my family and pets along with me. Would housing still be provided?
Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to accommodate families or pets during rotations. For students traveling alone, it is recommended that they secure their own housing for the duration of their rotation. If housing becomes available, a notification will be sent out within four weeks of the start of the rotation. We welcome any questions one may have about housing arrangements in the area.
What does a typical day entail for students?
Please refer to our Day in the Life of a Surgical Student at BMC page for more information.
Must one complete an audition rotation in order to be considered for an interview to the residency program?
No, audition rotations are not a requirement for an interview but are strongly encouraged.
