Services for Families
The caregivers at Berkshire Medical Center understand the toll that trauma can take on a family and close friends. We provide a variety of services to help families through this stressful time, and encourage them to take a very active role in the care of their loved one.
In addition to comfortable family waiting areas near the Intensive Care Unit and intermediate care, we also provide a room where out-of-town family members can spend the night.
A member of our Social Services staff will meet with the family of a trauma patient to provide whatever help and support is needed. Pastoral care is available, as well as a designated case manager who will serve as the patient and family's liaison with the trauma team in all aspects of care and recovery.
Case managers will assist in patient care coordination during the hospital stay, as well as with health insurance issues and discharge plans - whether patients are leaving to an acute rehab facility, a sub-acute facility or going home with services. As part of the Trauma Team, the case manager will ensure that the patient and family receives optimum care.
Trauma can be a very serious medical emergency that can take days or longer to resolve. Along the way, families may feel overwhelmed. Please ask us for help and we will try our best to provide the information and services you may need.
