How We Measure Up
Providing excellence in clinical care is an organizational priority at Berkshire Health Systems, as evidenced by Berkshire Medical Center being ranked among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation by HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings company in the US. Hospital quality measures are important factors by which to choose a hospital. Berkshire Medical Center has made the committment to reach the highest clinical, business and personal standards available in any hospital anywhere. Luckily we live in an age where most hospitals strive for excellence. This makes the ranking of excellence meaningful. Not all hospitals measure the same, but there are some widely recognized standard measures that are the same for as many as 4000 hospitals. Berkshire Medical Center continues to work to remain in the Top 100 of all hospitals in everything that we do.
By reporting this data, we hope you will have confidence and peace of mind that your hospital and its physicians, nurses and staff are committed to excellence in caring that you can have the very best outcomes possible.

What is a Benchmark?
Berkshire Medical Center compares all of its internal quality measures against benchmarks to help gauge our performance. Benchmarks are usually an external suitable comparison group, such as a national average, or an expected target set by an external agency. When none are available, Berkshire Medical Center sets its own internal performance goals.
Due to the government shutdown, we will not be able to get updates for our benchmarks until later (2015) and readmission rates have been suppressed by CMS/Medicare for at least 1 additional quarter.
