Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit is also known as Jones 3 and is a 15-bed Massachusetts Department of Mental Health-licensed facility serving residents of Berkshire County. Jones 3 is a locked-door, brief-stay assessment and treatment unit, where the average stay is nine days. The unit provides a thorough medical, psychiatric and psychosocial assessment, as well as risk assessment for suicide or other violence. Intensive psychiatric care is provided in the form of group, individual, family and psychopharmacological treatment. Unit professionals rely heavily on skill building and crisis survival techniques designed to equip patients with the tools necessary to manage painful emotions and tolerate intense periods of distress outside of the hospital environment.
Our patient population is diverse, and individual treatment is tailored to meet the specific needs of the patient. Geriatric patients receive optimal care from our trained staff and expert consultation from psychiatrists who specialize in geriatric psychiatry. Patients identified as dually diagnosed are provided additional education and treatment for the impact of alcohol and other substances in their lives.
