Preliminary Medicine Internship
The Internal Medicine Residency accepts 7 trainees per year for a one-year Preliminary Medicine program. The academic schedule is very similar to that of a Categorical Intern, with 4-5 blocks of Ward Medicine, 2 blocks of ICU, 1 block of Medicine Consult, 4 Elective rotations, and 1 block of Night Float.

Application Process For Preliminary Interns:
Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from the date which they become complete. Applications will not be reviewed unless they are completed by December 1.
Application Requirements:
- Completed Application in ERAS
- Minimum of three letters of recommendation
- Dean’s Letter or equivalent
- Passing Score for USMLE/COMLEX Steps I, II, and II CS/PE
- Medical School Transcript
- Personal Statement
- Recent Photograph
International Medical Graduates:
- Must be able to obtain a J1 Visa, Resident Alien Status, Green Card, or have US Citizenship.
- H1 Visas: For Preliminary Interns, Berkshire Medical Center does not sponsor new H1 Visas, but will accept transfer of H1 Visas.
Selection Criteria:
The Admissions Committee evaluates each application based on its overall merit and qualifications. We do not use specific criteria such as USMLE/COMLEX scores or date of graduation.
Usual Interview Dates:
Mid-October through January.
