Impact on Community Emergency Technicians
According to Brian Andrews, owner of County Ambulance which provides 911 emergency response to the city of Pittsfield, Berkshire Medical Center's Level III Trauma verification has brought his 65 employees "to the next level."
"The Trauma Service at BMC has been working very closely with the EMTs throughout the region. This coordination and training has increased the level of care that goes on in the field. We already have verifiable improvements, a better transition to the hospital, and important feedback that is making us a better organization," Brian said.
He also noted that the strict quality assurance program in place for the Trauma Service extends beyond the hospital to the EMTs, who receive constant feedback from
BMC's Emergency Medical Services coordinator. The coordinator reviews the care provided to trauma patients by the region's emergency medical technicians.
"This means that someone is taking a close second look at what we do," Brian continued. "The Trauma Service has instilled more confidence in us, and is helping all EMTs do a better job."
