Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical Facilities at BMC
Nine state-of-the-art operating suites on the first floor of Berkshire Medical Center are the centerpiece of surgical services at BMC. The operating suites are electronically linked to other areas of the hospital to gain immediate access to laboratory results, to project video of the surgery to other specialists within BMC or to experts anywhere in the world.
The hospital's surgical services area also features a large patient recovery area, called the PAC-U, with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and a private access corridor to ensure patient privacy.
A comfortable waiting area is provided for family and friends of patients in surgery with a patient liaison on staff to keep families in contact with the patient's surgical team. The family waiting area is open from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Fridays and is stocked with nutritional items such as coffee, tea, juice, and fruit.
At BMC, we encourage family involvement. A member of the family is permitted to stay with the patient until they go to surgery and can return to the patient's bedside as soon as the patient is stable after surgery.
The Crane Center for Day Surgery located adjacent to Berkshire Medical Center provides high-quality surgical care for both pediatric and adult patients. A wide variety of procedures are performed at the Crane Center including general surgery, endoscopic surgery, ear nose and throat surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, pain management, genitourinary and gynecological surgery.
At the Crane Center, our patients are provided with the same highly-qualified surgeons, anesthesiologists, certified surgical technologists and registered nurses as are provided at the main operating suites in the hospital. Special parking is provided Crane Center patients at the bottom level of the medical center's parking garage.
The Hillcrest Campus of BMC provides outpatient surgical services for adult patients. The vast majority of the procedures focus on pain management.
