William J. DeMarco, DO
Division Chief, Hospital Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, BMC
"I want BMC to be known as a great place with consistent quality, and I'm pleased to be in a position to help with that goal."
"I don't know if there was ever a time I didn't want to be a doctor," said BMC's affable hospitalist, Dr. DeMarco. "When I was young, my mom had open-heart surgery, one of the first in the state of Connecticut to do so. Maybe that was my defining moment, but somehow I always knew."
Born in Derby, CT, Dr. DeMarco attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, and pursued Medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine, graduating in 1984. After completing his Internship and Residency at Oakland General Hospital in Madison Heights, Michigan, Dr. DeMarco and wife, Ginny, set their sights on the Berkshires, as Dr. DeMarco had enjoyed a brief stint some years earlier as a medical student at Hillcrest Hospital.
Presently, Dr. DeMarco is Division Chief of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine. "I'm a hospital internist, committed solely to inpatient medical care," he states proudly. "With a shorter length of hospital days, it's imperative to intensify our services in an efficient manner...to optimize our care and resources in a consistent fashion."
Dr. DeMarco envisions 16 hospital internists practicing here at BMC in the near future, each committed to in-patient care and offering round-the-clock coverage to our patients.
A father of five - Billy, Brian, Timothy, Katie and Daniel- Dr. DeMarco enjoys kayaking and the great outdoors. He and his wife, Ginny, a nurse at the Pediatric Development Center and part-time nursing instructor at Berkshire Community College, live in Pittsfield. They have one grandchild.
