Fairview Endoscopy - Pre-Admission Guide
Appointments for colonoscopies and other endoscopic procedures are made by the referring physician (usually your primary care physician), who contacts Central Scheduling at Fairview Hospital.
If you are aged 50 years or older, call your primary care physician and ask for a referral to the Fairview Hospital Endoscopy Unit for a cancer screening colonoscopy. Depending on family history, some people may need colonoscopy screenings before the age of 50.
Pre-Admission Guide for Colonoscopy
Follow your doctor's orders for preparation for your endoscopy procedure. In particular, please note the following requirements:
- You will not be allowed to drive yourself home or take a taxi without someone to accompany you.
- Your sponsor/driver must be readily available at the time of discharge.
- If a sponsor/driver is not available, the procedure will be cancelled.
The evening prior to your procedure, Fairview Hospital will call to verify your procedure and register your information.
On the day of your procedure, if you have not pre-registered by phone the night before, please report to the Patient Registration Office on the Ground Floor before coming to the Endoscopy Unit.
Please provide your nurse with a list of medications, including any vitamins or herbal supplements, and if they were taken prior to your endoscopy procedure.
Your comfort is very important to us. Please inform the nurse caring for you of any discomfort before, during or after the procedure. We are committed to providing each patient with the highest level of care.
If you are uninsured or have financial questions, please contact our Financial Coordinator or Advocacy for Access Office in advance of your colonoscopy at 1-888-822-2237 or (413) 528-5045.
