People who are diagnosed with cancer have very compelling and immediate needs. They want to know where their cancer is, the extent of their disease and how soon they can begin the most effective treatment.
Berkshire Health Systems has a nationally recognized Cancer Program. The BMC Cancer Program has twice received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons - in 2006 and 2009.
The Cancer Institute of the Berkshires at BMC uses a careful and multi-disciplined approach to each patient, leading to rapid evaluations, planning and award-winning care. Going well beyond highly skilled medical, surgical and radiation oncology, BMC’s comprehensive services include the region’s most advanced technology, extraordinary nursing care and a full range of prevention, outreach, screening and support programs.
For common cancers detectable by screening, Fairview Hospital has a proven role in making early detection possible to the southern Berkshire community. Area primary care physicians regularly refer patients with symptoms to Fairview Hospital's diagnostic services including Radiology, Diagnostic Laboratory and Endoscopy Unit, to improve the opportunity for early detection and faster access to specialist treatment at The Cancer Center at Berkshire Medical Center when necessary.
