Our AOA General Surgery Program has applied to the ACGME with Osteopathic-Focused Track under the Single Accreditation System and has officially achieved pre-accreditation status.

Program Description:

Berkshire Medical Center was formally approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to offer a 5 year program in General Surgery in September 2012. This unique program began in 2013 and accepts two residents per year for a total complement of 10 residents.

All applications will be considered through the Admissions Committee on an individual basis regarding merit and qualifications. The following criteria must be met prior to selection of candidates for an interview:

  • Application through ERAS application with deadline of December 1st
  • CV
  • Dean’s Letter
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • COMLEX Board Scores
  • Personal Statement

This curriculum for this program will follow our current AOA-approved General Surgery curriculum and requirements. The mandatory Osteopathic component will link with all other AOA Approved programs with dedicated teaching days and conferences and required  participation at these sessions.

Upon satisfactory completion of this 5 year program the trainee is eligible to sit for the American Board of Osteopathic Surgery Examination.
